A-Z

L is for Lips

Last week was great and last week was nuts. We saw our various kids, kids-in-law, and grandkids four times in four days. This involved hours of driving in light snow, January winds, and no salts trucks anywhere.

K is for Karma

I am writing A-Z posts and I am doing it so slowly you probably forgot. But here we are.

K is for Karma

F is for Facism

I wondered if any WWII battles started with the letter F because my attempts at “F is for …” have not been working. One thing led to another and Monday night I started watching a Netflix series of documentaries about WWII which is collated from actual footage from the war.

E is for Eyes

We ALL have the same biology for vision. Light comes in the gooey front part of the eye. It hits the retina which is a light-sensitive layer of tissue at the back of the eye. Cells called photoreceptors turn the light into electrical signals.

D is for Discipline

In the 1980’s sixty nuns agreed to donate their brains to science after they died. (You can google this, there are many articles.)

C is for Camelot

I just finished reading The Bright Sword, a new novel by Lev Grossman. Grossman wrote my favorite YA novel (other than the one I wrote..) The Silver Arrow which I’ve read three times; it’s that good and that thoughtful.

B is for Belligerent

Last year I asked you for A-Z suggestions and then I wrote about your topics. I doing this again, except this time I’m picking my own A-Z subjects.

A is for Anise

Last year I asked you for A-Z suggestions and then I wrote about your topics. It was an interesting way to write and I appreciated both the mandate and the freedom. I am beginning this again except this time I’m picking my own A-Z subjects.

A-Z, Z is for Zebra

Everybody loves zebras! Several years ago, we took a little grandkid to a zoo and when she saw the zebras her eyes got big and she blurted out. “Zeee-baaa!”

A-Z, Y is for Yellowstone

Back in February I asked you to give me topics to write about that would correspond to the alphabet. Sometimes several of you sent ideas for one letter and sometimes I wrote about all of them (I’s and S’s) Here we are at letter Y for which your suggestions are Yummy Food and Yawns.

Black Sand Beach  / by Sam Silver

Iron-dark grains underfoot,

Formed in ancient fires and shaped by time,

Phrases and designations that barely existed when we who are old now were young then.

I wrote A Fairy Tale Dinner which is posted in The Gullet. I will post the link to that story at the end of this one. A friend asked for more About Julia and Woody; that is what this is.

Guatemalan Countryside

I stayed twice for several days with a Maya family in Guatemala’s altiplano. This adventure happened during my second day of my second stay with them.

Three Things
Looking out window

Three Things except it’s really more than that.

1. Earlier this year I read these two books by Palestinian writers and I recommend both. If you’ve read good books by Palestinian writers, maybe tell us about them in the comments?

Bird against a bright, blue sky

The Wisconsin Writers Association hosts a short story contest each year. This morning I submitted a story I wrote over the past few months. If and/or when it doesn't win (I'm not optimistic but I have hope.
