A Safe Cat

I’m working on a new story so in the meantime, here’s a newspaper column from 2005. About living with a cat.

Playground

I’ve only ever been proposed to twice. Once was from my husband, though frankly, that was more of a startling conversation than a proposal.

Real Rainbows & the Stories We Tell About Them

It started raining this afternoon so I found this essay which I wrote in 2006. I learned later that the rainbow Len and I saw appeared just as the daughter of friends was marrying her husband in a backyard wedding a couple miles from where we lived.

Aristotle and Detective Shows

Aristotle wrote a lot of important stuff, very little of which I’ve read. But this Aristotelian idea is cool and I don’t know why we are not taught this in high school. It helps untangle why we are reading what we are reading and watching what we are watching.

Len's Website

It's "Two Writers, No Waiting" around here.

Solstice 2026

I wrote this post about Solstice in 2015 and here we are this weekend.

Lunch

I first published this in my Racine Journal Times weekly column on January 17, 2003, which is, whoa, 8506 lunches ago.

Are there sweeter words in the English language than, "Hey, time for lunch!"?

I wrote A Fairy Tale Dinner which is posted in The Gullet. I will post the link to that story at the end of this one. A friend asked for more About Julia and Woody; that is what this is.

Guatemalan Countryside

I stayed twice for several days with a Maya family in Guatemala’s altiplano. This adventure happened during my second day of my second stay with them.

Three Things
Looking out window

Three Things except it’s really more than that.

1. Earlier this year I read these two books by Palestinian writers and I recommend both. If you’ve read good books by Palestinian writers, maybe tell us about them in the comments?

Bird against a bright, blue sky

The Wisconsin Writers Association hosts a short story contest each year. This morning I submitted a story I wrote over the past few months. If and/or when it doesn't win (I'm not optimistic but I have hope.
